The Seattle Lilla Spelmanslag is a group of young musicians who play traditional Nordic music. Young people from age 8 to 18 come together within a community of young musicians to play, perform, and enjoy folk music from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
Providing an experience of the Nordic folk music traditions and the culture around them, we recognize the contribution that each musician makes to the whole. Performance is used as a vehicle for teaching poise, confidence and presence. At the same time, we build technical skills, musicianship, teamwork and leadership.
We perform around the Pacific Northwest at folk dances, pancake breakfasts, festivals, and by invitation at meetings, social gatherings, nursing homes and schools. The group has toured in Sweden (2013) and Denmark (2017).
The Seattle Lilla Spelmanslag is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
